The search for Mohamed Salah’s successor has dominated Liverpool’s summer agenda since the Egyptian king walked out of Anfield for the final time following the last game of the season.

Nine years, 252 goals, four Golden Boots, and a legacy that will define the club’s modern era — replacing him was never going to be a simple exercise in recruitment.

It is a cultural, strategic, and footballing challenge that will define how quickly Liverpool recover under Andoni Iraola.

Several names have circulated in the weeks since Salah’s departure.

Francisco Trincao of Sporting CP emerged as a serious option, with Portuguese newspaper Record reporting Liverpool’s interest on their front page.

Rafael Leao confirmed publicly that he wants to leave AC Milan and explore a new league.

Federico Chiesa has made clear his desire to find regular minutes elsewhere after two frustrating seasons at Anfield.

But the name that has attracted the most significant attention, and the most significant price tag, is Yan Diomande

The 19-year-old RB Leipzig winger has been one of the most electrifying young attackers in European football, combining raw pace, direct running, and an end product that has led to comparisons with some of the continent’s most exciting wide players.

Leipzig value him at above €130 million, a figure that reflects both his talent and the power dynamic of a club unwilling to be bullied into a sale for a player they consider one of their crown jewels.

Liverpool’s interest has been well documented.

The club reportedly informed RB Leipzig of their intentions earlier in the window, and the winger had himself been linked with a potential switch to Merseyside as a profile that would fit the attacking system Iraola is expected to implement.

Paris Saint-Germain have also been heavily linked with a move, making the competition for his signature among the most intense of the summer.

But now, sources close to Diomande have moved to clarify the reality of where things stand.

According to Winwin, an anonymous source with direct knowledge of the situation has firmly pushed back on reports suggesting Liverpool have already made a contract offer to the player.

“Liverpool have not made any offers so far to sign Diomande,” the source stated.

“There is nothing from Liverpool towards the player.”

The source went further, emphasising that Diomande himself is not currently engaged in any transfer discussions at all.

“Many clubs are interested in signing him, but he is focused on playing in the World Cup with Ivory Coast, and he refuses to discuss anything related to his future at the moment.”

“Nothing will happen until his participation in the World Cup with his national team is over.”

The report does not dispute Liverpool’s interest, only that a formal offer has been made.

For Liverpool, that distinction may actually represent an opportunity.

With Diomande unavailable for direct negotiations until the World Cup concludes, the window remains open for the club to build a club-to-club framework with Leipzig before the player himself is ready to listen.

The race has not been lost.

It has barely started.
