Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Sees Father Get Huge Coaching Opportunity
An NFL quarterback’s father has been hired as the next head football coach at a Charlotte high school. Duke Howell, the father of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Sam Howell, will be appointed to the position of head coach at Myers Park High School. On Friday, June 5, the school announced the hire via social media.
“Let’s give a warm welcome to our guy! Welcome to THE STABLE Coach Duke Howell,” the post read. “Coach Howell is a veteran coach with a great coaching resume. We believe he will be a great asset to our program.”
Most recently, the elder Howell served as head coach at Cuthbertson High School in Union County. On May 26, Chris James stepped down as coach at Myers Park.
Sam Howell, Duke Howell’s son, is preparing for his fifth season in the NFL. Sam was drafted by Washington in the fifth round of the 2022 draft, but he was traded to the Seahawks prior to the 2024 season. After being traded to the Vikings in early 2025, he was traded again to the Eagles just prior to the regular season.
As of March of this year, the 25-year-old quarterback is a member of the Dallas Cowboys. In the race to be Dak Prescott’s primary backup, he will face off against Joe Milton.
