Newspaper Le Parisien claim that the Gunners are now in pole position to secure the 18-year-old’s services.

Mbemba has been offered a professional contract by PSG, but he is not interested in putting pen to paper.

With that being the case, the France Under 19 international is free to leave the Parc des Princes with minimal compensation required.

What do fans need to know about Mbemba?

The teenager is a left-back by trade, but he can play in the middle of defence if needed.

Mbemba has not made his senior debut yet, but he did get some minutes for PSG in the UEFA Youth League last season.

The fullback made substitute appearances against Tottenham (in the group stage) and against Real Madrid in the semi-finals – a match they lost on penalties.

He would not play for Arsenal straight away

Mbemba can officially sign for the Gunners as he is 18. Work permit rules stipulate that British clubs can’t recruit any player from abroad who is below that age.

However, to qualify for a visa, you need to have a certain number of points based on certain criteria, which include international appearances.

At the moment, Mbemba doesn’t qualify, but Le Parisien report that Arsenal would loan the player out.

Paris FC were pursuing the defender’s signature on a permanent deal, but there is now a chance that the Gunners will snap him up and let him stay in France with PSG’s city rivals. We shall see how this transfer story develops.
