Texas Tech’s Brenden Sorsby Appeal Denied
Via a tweet from Adam Schefter, Texas Tech’s appeal to the NCAA to have Brendan Sorsby reinstated for the 2026 season was denied.
Sorsby was set to start as Texas Tech’s quarterback this year, but a gambling scandal has put him in jeopardy, and made it much more likely that he won’t be able to play at the NCAA level this year. Texas Tech appealed that decision, and as Schefter reports, it has been denied.
However, that doesn’t necessarily spell the end of Sorsby’s NCAA tenure. The quarterback filed a lawsuit in May seeking a temporary injunction which would allow him to play for Texas Tech this year. That’s still awaiting a ruling from a Texas judge. If it doesn’t end in Sorsby’s favor, he may have to enter the supplemental draft by the end of the month.
Sebastian Castro Learning From Jalen Ramsey
Jalen Ramsey, rightfully so, has stolen a lot of headlines from the Steelers’ new-look secondary. In his first year under Patrick Graham, Ramsey is expected to fill a versatile role, figuring to spend time both at safety and cornerback. As a veteran, part of his job also includes helping some of the younger players along.
That’s something he seems to be doing for Sebastian Castro.
“I would say probably the biggest thing is his confidence, that he knows he can do it all. And he’s proven it. So just watching him, and being around it every single day last year. Just watching him, the confidence rubs off,” Castro said this week.
It’s a big year for Castro, fighting will multiple names for a spot in the defensive backfield. Hopefully he can continue to learn from Ramsey as part of that effort.
Rams Reportedly Ready To Sign Puka Nacua To Record Deal
Elsewhere across the NFL world, it isn’t only Steelers’ players signing contract extensions. There may be a record-setting deal on the horizon for Puka Nacua and the Los Angeles Rams, according to NFL insider Jason La Canfora.
“It remains seen as something of a foregone conclusion in NFL personnel circles that Nacua remains in line for a record-setting contract extension,” La Canfora wrote for SportsBoom.
La Canfora notes that Nacua’s deal is expected to surpass that of Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The latter’s deal was for four years, and worth $168.6 million. It’s hard to believe Nacua wouldn’t deserve more on his own deal, one that’s expected to reset the market at the position.
