Here's everything you need to know about Manchester City's midfield targets with more than just Elliot Anderson under consideration:

Elliot Anderson is Manchester City's top target this summer having been identified as a long-term option in the middle of midfield.

City are in talks with Nottingham Forest over a potential move for the former Newcastle United man, who is currently at the World Cup with England. The two clubs need to agree a fee and there has been speculation it could pass the £100m mark.

England boss Thomas Tuchel has said players will be allowed to complete medicals and deals while on international duty. "It's about common sense," he said. "I would not like [transfers on] the day before a match, or on a matchday, that's the policy. Maybe two days before too, but let's see. But everything else - if it's done privately, efficiently and quietly - then we are always happy to help. It helps to have clarity around any player. If anyone has a chance to complete a change of club we will not stand in their way."

It's not just Anderson that City have an interest in. Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali is a potential target with the Italian catching the eye at St James' Park.

City could sign more than one central midfielder with any prospective move for Tonali not dependent on what happens with Anderson.

There is uncertainty around Rodri, Nico Gonzalez, Mateo Kovacic and Tijjani Reijnders, so City have plans in place to move for reinforcements should they need to.
