Caitlin Clark rooting against Knicks sweeping Spurs in NBA Finals

As New York Knicks fans are dreaming of a sweep of the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, WNBA and Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark hopes the Knicks fail to do so.

The Knicks have jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead over the Spurs after winning each of the first two games on San Antonio’s home court.

Now, the Spurs must make history in order to win the series, as no team has ever come back from down 0-2 in the NBA Finals after losing the first two games at home.

With Clark in town for a game against the New York Liberty on Saturday, she admitted she hopes the series goes seven, although she doesn’t have a rooting interest in either team.

Clark pointed to how entertaining the series is as one reason, as well as the overall vibe she’s witnessing while in New York.

“I’m a fan of basketball, so I love great games. I don’t want the Knicks to sweep it,” she said, per Yanyan Li of Front Office Sports. “I’m kind of indifferent on who wins, but I’m just such a basketball fan that I would love to see it go to seven games, just because I think it’s been such a great series.”

“I was out to dinner last night, and it was fun to just see the buzz around around the city, and how passionate fans are. And I was joking with Lexi [Hull], I’m like, ‘Man, we should have gone right outside MSG after they [won], because I always want to see those people… where they’re like jumping around on each other and climbing light poles,” Clark added.

“I feel like that would be the experience. I don’t know if my security guy would let me do that, but I want to. I want to experience that, because those Knicks fans are, they’re so passionate and crazy. I admire it. It’s pretty awesome.”

Caitlin Clark says she doesn't want the Knicks to sweep the NBA finals, and that she wants the series to go to a Game 7 because she's "a fan of basketball."

Listen, we get it, the NBA Finals have been entertaining and the series going seven games would be ideal for basketball fans.

But it wouldn’t be ideal for Knicks fans, who have been through enough as a fan base over the last 53 years.

Let Knicks fans get their first title since 1973 with as little struggle as possible. If any fan base has earned it, it’s the Knicks’.

Adding to that, we’d also love to see the Knicks finish things off at home, which they can only do in Game 4 (if New York wins Game 3) or Game 6.

The New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs will square off in Game 3 at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

One way or the other, this series will end in historic fashion.

Either the Knicks grab their first title since all the way back in 1973 or the Spurs overcome the fact that no team in league history has ever won an NBA Finals after losing the first two games at home.

For long-suffering Knicks fans, we hope the former ends up being the outcome.
