Steven Gerrard scores for ‘Reds FC’ vs. Barcelona in strange Korea match

Steven Gerrard scored for ‘The Reds Football Club’ against Barcelona Legends as a team of ex-Liverpool players lost 8-3, but the game wasn’t officially endorsed by the club.

Not too long ago, Gerrard was shining in tandem with Thiago for Liverpool Legends against Borussia Dortmund in March.

And now, the former Reds captain has again donned the kit in unofficial fashion!

Gerrard featured for ‘The Reds FC’ at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Saturday, finding the net to make it 1-1 after Patrick Kluivert had opened the scoring.

Rivaldo, Nolito and Andres Iniesta were among the goalscorers for Barca, with Robbie Keane and Luis Garcia bagging the other goals for The Reds.

The likes of Jerzy Dudek, Sami Hyypia and Adam Lallana all played for Liverpool, but their opponents’ class shone through.

In the end, Barca ran out 8-3 winners in South Korea, with ex-Liverpool man Javier Mascherano featuring for the Catalan giants.

Also playing were Champions League-winning pair Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, with the latter named in the starting lineup alongside his father, Carles Busquets.

Match Lineups

Reds Football Club XI: Dudek; Johnson, Skrtel, Hyypia, Klavan, Riise; Gerrard, Lallana, Garcia; Kuyt, Babel

Liverpool FC weren’t officially involved

It seems strange that this game had nothing to do with Liverpool in an official capacity, hence the team being called ‘Reds Football Club’.

Lots of the same faces who feature in the legends games at Anfield were present, but for whatever reason, the club seemingly didn’t want to be involved.

It may simply be that too much is happening at Liverpool, not least the arrival of Andoni Iraola as head coach, to justify taking the time to focus on this match.

Given the result, though, they may be relieved that they steered clear from this one!

Still, the likes of Alba and Busquets would no doubt trade a defeat here for a better result in the Champions League semi-final at Anfield in 2019, when they were stunned by Jurgen Klopp‘s Liverpool.
