Among those handed a landmark moment was Liverpool midfielder Kieran Morrison, who made his senior debut for the national team and became the latest academy graduate to earn recognition at international level.

The appearance marks another important chapter in Morrison’s rapid rise over the last twelve months.

Born in Manchester, Morrison has represented Northern Ireland throughout the age groups and established himself as a key figure for the Under-21 side before breaking into the senior team.

His development at Liverpool has mirrored that progress internationally. The midfielder has just come off the back of an outstanding campaign for Liverpool’s Under-21s, registering goals and assists consistently in Premier League 2 while captaining the side on multiple occasions.

His performances caught the attention of Arne Slot and the first-team coaching staff, leading to involvement in senior training and even a senior start, as the midfielder started Liverpool’s Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace back in October 2025.

Following his debut, Morrison reflected on the achievement and the emotions that came with finally earning his first senior cap.

The midfielder said: “It felt great, to be honest. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a while.

“When Michael told me, I was over the moon. I’m just glad that I made it, and me and my family are very proud of this moment.”

“When you just take every game as it is, it doesn’t matter really the situation. Obviously before it you get quite a lot of nerves but as soon as the whistle goes, you just focus on the job at hand.”

“Thankfully we got the win, we got a clean sheet, so it’s a positive.”

Liverpool confirmed that Kieran Morrison had signed a new four year contract towards the end of May that would see him commit his future to the club until 2030 and his senior international debut only reinforces the belief that he could have a major future ahead of him.
