The New York Knicks are two games away from becoming NBA champions, and they know the job is far from done. They also know if they continue to lean on their star players, they'll have a chance at winning any game. Karl-Anthony Towns has been playing out of his mind through the first two games of the series, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he won Finals MVP if the Knicks come out on top.
If all of that were to happen, the Knicks may end up extending Towns with a new contract, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.
“If the Knicks do, in fact, tie the bow on this NBA Finals package, there will still be a discussion to be had with Towns about securing his services for the long-term. He has one guaranteed season left on his current deal, with a player option worth $61 million for the 2027-28 campaign, and is eligible for a massive extension (four years and a combined $272 million),” Samick wrote.

There's no question that Towns would deserve an extension for what he's done, and even if they don't win it all, he should still get it. As much as Jalen Brunson's heroics have helped the Knicks this postseason, it's Towns who has helped everything happen for the team, and he's one of the top players in the league at his position.
There were questions throughout the season about Towns' fit in the Knicks system and if he and Mike Brown could be on the same page, and they've silenced the doubters in the most important time of the year. The Knicks are playing like one of the best playoff teams in history, and the winning streak they're on proves it.
There's still a lot to get accomplished, but it's safe to say the Knicks are in the driver's seat.
