According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the 76ers are promoting assistant general manager Jameer Nelson to Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations under new president Mike Gansey. The move makes the Philadelphia native and former NBA All-Star the No. 2 executive in the franchise.

Additionally, 76ers assistant GM Prosper Karangwa has agreed to a multiyear contract extension.

Nelson began his executive career in 2020 as assistant GM of the Delaware Blue Coats, the 76ers’ NBA G League affiliate.

Last May, Nelson was promoted to assistant general manager of the 76ers.

As a player, Nelson spent 14 seasons in the NBA, most notably 10 with the Orlando Magic, where he became an All-Star during the 2008-09 season.
