One of the Celtics' biggest rivals, the Philadelphia 76ers, made a significant move on Sunday by promoting Jameer Nelson from assistant general manager to vice president of basketball operations, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
The 76ers have made several key moves this offseason, including parting ways with president of basketball operations Daryl Morey and bringing in former Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey to replace him.

Nelson had a 14-year NBA career, notably spending 10 seasons with the Orlando Magic. He also had a brief stint with the Celtics, playing six games during the 2014-15 season.
The former 44-year-old guard began his executive career with the 76ers' G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, where he served as assistant general manager in 2020. He then moved on to take a role as the 76ers' assistant general manager last season.
Nelson is a native of Philadelphia who played high school basketball in the city and even continued his athletic career at Saint Joseph's University.
Perhaps Nelson could leverage this promotion as a stepping stone to secure a general manager or even a head president of basketball operations position with another organization in the future.
