Chelsea are interested in signing Darwin Nunez this summer - but the forward is keen on a return to Liverpool. Nunez only left Anfield last summer after three years at the club.
The forward joined Al-Hilal in a deal worth €53m (£46.3m), but he has endured a difficult time in Saudi Arabia. Nunez was brutally axed from his side's Saudi Pro League squad in February to accommodate the January signing of Karim Benzema.
And with claims being made that the forward has terminated his contract with Al-Hilal, Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Nunez would like to return to Liverpool this summer.
However, the report also claims that the arrival of Xabi Alonso to Chelsea has resulted in the Stamford Bridge club being interested, while Barcelona and Newcastle United are also mentioned as possible destinations.
The Uruguay international at the start of the 2022 summer transfer window from Portuguese side Benfica for an initial fee of £64m, arriving amid high expectations. He scored 40 goals in 143 appearances for the Reds but only started eight Premier League games during their title-winning campaign that was his last season at the club.
In a message to Liverpool supporters after his Anfield exit was confirmed, he said: “Thank you, Liverpool. Three years on, it’s time to say goodbye. I’ll take with me countless memories that will live with me forever.
“I leave with a full heart, thanks to the love of a crowd that never let me down and always had my back - through the highs and through the lows.
“Liverpool will always be part of who I am. I’ll miss you more than words can say. To all the staff and my teammates - thank you and all the very best for the future.”

Nunez’s time at Anfield was not without problems as the forward was often guilty of missing chances. And in an interview earlier this year, he thanked Liverpool supporters for always sticking by him during his tough times at the club.
He said: “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss them. The truth is, they made me feel very welcome, and my family too.
“During some difficult times I went through personally, the people always gave me that affection, that support, and that was very important to me, and obviously I miss Liverpool.”
