One of the most impressive feats in the NBA currently is New York Knicks wing Mikal Bridges’ active streak of most consecutive games played, and while it does not carry over to the playoffs amid the team’s NBA Finals run, it’s still something to marvel at.
While on assignment as one of the league’s guest reporters for the NBA Finals, New Orleans Pelicans’ rookie guard Jeremiah Fears took part during media availability sessions where he asked Mikal Bridges what his secret is to being able to be so durable during the regular season, as per ClutchPoints’ own Kris Pursiainen. And he received a strong answer.
“I just want to be out there … just want to grow every day, be better. It’s kind of how I was raised, kind of how when I was in high school, college, my coaches always preached playing every game even if you’re banged up a little bit. They make you play,” Bridges said. “I think subconsciously knowing how the league goes … the more I think about it, never ever, leave a window open for someone to take your spot. I think that’s kind of been subconsciously staying on my mind ever since I first got in the league.

“I always play no matter what, but I think that’s just another aspect that kind of got to me was always just you never know. You never know how you might go out for a week or two and maybe the next guy steps up and maybe the team plays better … the organization might look at you a little bit different.”
Bridges has played in all 82 games for the past five seasons, and in six of his eight years in the NBA. During the 2022-23 season, he actually played in 83 games due to being traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Brooklyn Nets and adjusting to the Nets’ remaining schedule.
And Bridges has continued to be an impact player during the Knicks’ Finals run.
