Spurs’ Stephon Castle takes hammer to ankle injury concerns before NBA Finals Game 3

It's not a good situation for the San Antonio Spurs, who trail the 2026 NBA Finals two games to none after losing both games on their home court at Frost Bank Arena in San Antonio to the New York Knicks.

The Knicks have all of the momentum on their side as the series shifts to Madison Square Garden for Games 3 and 4, starting on Monday evening.

Spurs guard Stephon Castle tweaked his ankle during their Game 2 setback, but he managed to put any doubt about his availability to rest by explaining that it's feeling better than he thought it would by this time.

“It's been feeling good,” Castle said about his ankle via Tom Orsborn on X, formerly known as Twitter. “It feels a lot better than I thought it would initially. Obviously, I had some adrenaline running, kind of once I settled down, I started to feel it. Waking up the next day, actually felt really good.”

Castle fell to the floor after landing awkwardly on Mikal Bridges' foot with 6:45 left in the fourth quarter. He limped to the bench and, while he remained on the bench for most of the rest of the game, he was on the court for the final moments.

So far in the NBA Playoffs, Castle has averaged 18.8 points while adding 6.4 assists and 5.1 rebounds during San Antonio's journey to their first NBA Finals appearance since 2014. He and the Spurs have a daunting task ahead of them, as the odds of winning an NBA championship after dropping the first two matchups of the Finals are certainly not optimistic.
