How Stacey King helped rescue Michael Jordan to win 1992 NBA Finals for Bulls

The Chicago Bulls lost a beloved member of their family on Sunday. Former Bulls player and broadcaster Stacey King passed away at the age of 59. King won three NBA championships while playing with Chicago, from 1991-1993.

A story is coming to light about how King helped the team win the 1992 NBA Finals. King played a pivotal role in helping the team's star Michael Jordan.

During Game 6 of the 1992 Finals, Chicago was down big to the Portland Trail Blazers. King helped lead the way in the fourth quarter to get Chicago back in the game.

“King then hit a banker, making it scores on seven straight possessions for the Bulls to get within three points midway through the quarter when (Phil) Jackson sent Jordan back into the game. Jordan scored right away with a floater as Portland began to become even more distracted, claiming bad foul calls. (Scottie) Pippen hit an unlikely three at the 24-second buzzer, and amazingly the Bulls were tied at 85. Shortly thereafter, the Bulls took the lead, their first since it was 4-2,” NBA.com reported.

“Stacey King was a cherished member of the Bulls family and one of the truly unique personalities in our organization's history,” Bulls owner and chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement, per ESPN. “His connection to Chicago, the Bulls and our fans spanned more than three decades — first as a player and later as the unmistakable voice that helped bring Bulls basketball into the homes of generations of fans.

“We will miss him deeply and remember the joy, energy, humor, candor and passion that he brought to our organization, our broadcasts, and our fans every day.”

King worked on the Bulls broadcast team for television, following his days as a player.
