Top flight clubs 'register interest' in Sheffield United transfer target ahead of summer window

Sheffield United are understood to have retained their interest in Everton right-back Nathan Patterson ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Sheffield United will face competition from ‘top flight clubs’ in the race to try and sign Everton right-back Nathan Patterson this summer, according to a report by the Liverpool Echo.

As reported by The Star last week, United are understood to have retained interest in the Scotland international ahead of the summer transfer window officially opening next Monday.

The Blades will be in the market for a right-back this summer after Ki-Jana Hoever returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers following his loan spell at Bramall Lane in the second half of the 2025/26 campaign.

United are understood to have considered an approach for Patterson, who has been included in Scotland’s 26-man squad for this summer’s World Cup, before swooping for Hoever. The former made just eight appearances for the Toffees this season.

Following Hoever’s return to Molineux, Femi Seriki is United’s only senior right-back, meaning boss Chris Wilder is desperate to source him some competition. Hoever, it was widely felt, did not do enough to challenge the former Bury man during his time in S2.

With Patterson facing an uncertain future at Everton this summer, the Echo has reported that ‘interest has been registered by top flight clubs in several leagues’, meaning it looks as though United will face stern competition in their quest to sign the defender. Everton themselves want to strengthen at right-back this summer.

The 24-year-old, who joined Everton in 2022, has been heavily linked with a return to Rangers in recent weeks. The Scottish club will be on the hunt for a right-back this summer following the departure of long-serving defender James Tavernier.

Patterson, who was close to joining Sevilla last summer and then Italian outfit Genoa in January, has already admitted he will have to sit down with Everton boss David Moyes to have a discussion about his future.

"Obviously you want to play as much as you can but it's not really up to me, I can only do what I can on the pitch,” said Patterson, speaking back in March. “That’s a discussion for myself and the manager to have (about his future).

“But my focus is just on Scotland right now.”

Patterson will be hoping to feature when Scotland face Haiti in their World Cup opener this weekend.
