Chelsea to get world class signing: after£80M star makes statement CONFIRMING summer move‘has to happen’

AC Milan forward Rafael Leão has reportedly opened the door to a summer departure from the Italian giants, with the Portugal international said to be keen on testing himself in the Premier League amid growing interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

The winger has long been regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents and has been consistently linked with a move away from San Siro over the past several transfer windows. Fresh reports now suggest Leão is ready for a new challenge, with England emerging as his preferred destination should he leave Milan this summer.

Leão has been a standout performer for AC Milan since arriving from Lille in 2019, developing into one of Serie A’s most dangerous forwards. His pace, dribbling ability and eye for goal have made him a key figure for the Rossoneri, helping the club secure the Serie A title and establish themselves once again among Europe’s elite.

However, speculation surrounding his future has intensified following reports that the Portuguese star is interested in experiencing a different league and believes the Premier League represents the next step in his career. Such comments are likely to place several English clubs on alert as they prepare for what is expected to be another busy transfer window.

Speaking to Sport TV, Leao said: “I felt I could make a difference, but the way the team played didn’t put me in a position to do so. I need a new challenge. In Italy, the league is evolving, but for my style of football, the Premier League or La Liga would better showcase my talent and me as a player.

‘If the opportunity in the Premier League were to come my way, I would be very happy: I think I would be able to match my talent with players who are at a very high level.”

“It was a difficult season. I played injured for 4-5 months with groin pain, in a position that isn’t my style,” Leao admitted. “The tactical system didn’t help me. I felt I could make a difference, but the way the team played didn’t put me in a position to do so. In the end, it becomes exhausting.

“However, I’ve often played as a second striker in my career, and I think it’s my favorite position. And I can also play as a false 9, especially in a team like Portugal. As a winger, after dribbling, I have more time to think about whether to shoot, dribble again, or cross.

‘But playing as a second striker, I’m closer to the goal and I have to be more concrete: either I make assists or I shoot. It’s a detail I need to work on. Ultimately, football is based on numbers, and it’s the last step I’m missing.”

CHELSEA have been linked with Leão on multiple occasions in recent years and are thought to remain admirers of the winger’s profile. Arsenal, meanwhile, continue to assess attacking reinforcements as they look to strengthen a squad capable of competing for major honours both domestically and in Europe. Manchester United are also expected to explore options in wide attacking areas as part of their ongoing rebuild.

Any deal would likely require a significant financial commitment. Leão remains one of Milan’s most valuable assets and the Italian club are under no immediate pressure to sell. His contract situation and market value mean any interested club would need to submit a substantial offer to begin formal negotiations.

Despite the growing speculation, no official bids have been reported and Milan are expected to resist attempts to lure away one of their star players. Nevertheless, Leão’s apparent desire for a fresh challenge is likely to fuel transfer talk throughout the summer.

With several Premier League giants searching for attacking quality, the Portugal international could become one of the most closely watched names in the European transfer market over the coming months.
