Former Knicks All-Star hopes Trump gets standing ovation during Game 3 at MSG

Amar'e Stoudemire believes Knicks fans will give Donald Trump a standing ovation during Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.

Former New York Knicks star Amar'e Stoudemire hopes for a standing ovation for President Donald Trump at Madison Square Garden in Game 3 between the Knicks and San Antonio Spurs.

"Oh, man, he's going to get a standing ovation. That's the United States president. He deserves all the respect that we can give him," Stoudemire told TMZ Sports this week.

"It's a tough job to take on to be the President of the United States. And so, you know, he deserved all the respect. So I think the Knicks fans will show respect Monday night to the president if he does come to the game."

A New York native, Trump is a well-known Knicks fan and revealed that he was personally invited by franchise owner James Dolan to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

Trump originally planned to attend a potential Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers at Madison Square Garden, but the series ended in a 4-0 sweep in Cleveland.

The last time a sitting U.S. president attended an NBA game was in 2015, when Barack Obama watched a matchup between the Chicago Bulls and the Cavaliers.

After winning the first two games of the series in San Antonio, the Knicks are now historically close to capturing their first NBA championship since 1973.

The last time New York reached the NBA Finals was in 1999, when the Knicks lost to the Spurs 4-1.

Game 3 in New York will be played on Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
