Despite appearing to cool their interest in Ibrahima Konate earlier in the 2025/26 season, Los Blancos have resurfaced in classic Real Madrid style, seizing the chance to land the now former Liverpool defender on a free transfer.
Now, to see him walk away without a fee, only to join one of Europe’s super‑clubs, will do little to ease the frustration around Anfield as another big name follows Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Trent Alexander-Arnold out of the door in the space of a year.
Reliable French journalist Fabrice Hawkins has reported:
“Ibrahima Konate has signed with Real Madrid, until 2030. The French international (28 caps) was a campaign promise of Florentino Perez, who was re-elected as president of the club on Sunday. The defender leaves Liverpool where his contract expires on June 30.”
“He is currently in Lille with the French team for the friendly match against Northern Ireland, this Monday (9:10 p.m.) before flying to the United States to play in the World Cup.”
Prior reports from Spain last week asserted that the deal is believed to be worth around €12 million per season.
On top of that, the Spanish giants are also said to be offering the former Liverpool defender a hefty €20 million signing-on bonus as part of the package.
Fabrizio Romano previously reported that his bonuses were the sticking point in the Frenchman’s negotiations with Liverpool, surrounding things like number of appearances as well as competition objectives like winning the Champions League.
It seems a very trivial thing to be able to deny a contract extension, but the decision has been made.
