As Brunson continues to lead the Knicks in the NBA Finals, the team captain reflected on the influence Bryant's philosophy has had on his career and daily approach to the game.
"The way I carry myself and do things is a credit to how I was raised by my parents," Brunson said during media availability. "But also part of the philosophy seeps into the Mamba mentality as well. So there's a connectivity there.
"I do my best to stay present in the moment and do everything I can to make sure my mind is right, be mentally and physically ready every day and trusting my work. That's what's gotten me here. So there's connectivity about it."
Bryant's relentless work ethic and competitive mindset have inspired countless NBA players over the years, and Brunson is among those who have embraced those principles throughout their careers.
That approach has paid off during New York's playoff run. Brunson has repeatedly delivered in key moments, helping the Knicks take control of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.
After winning the first two games on the road, New York is now in a strong position to capture its first NBA championship since 1973.
The Knicks' previous Finals appearance came in 1999, when the Spurs defeated New York in five games.
