While it's hard to pin a loss on one singular play, Wembanyama will likely remember his blunder late in Game 2 against the Knicks.
With under 20 seconds left in the game, Wemby forced a miss by Jalen Brunson. The game was tied at 104 apiece. The Spurs then had a chance to regain the lead on the fast break.
Wembanyama then made a crucial error, throwing the ball into Stephen Castle's back. Brunson picked the ball up and was fouled. He made one of his two free throws to give the Knicks a one-point lead.
The last shot was then taken by Wembanyama, who missed it. This secured the victory for the Knicks, who now hold a 2-0 lead as the series heads to New York City.
Wemby has the chance to win his first championship in his third season in the NBA. During the regular season, he averaged a career-high 25 points and 11.5 rebounds a game. He played in 64 games, starting 55 of them. He was named to the NBA All-Star Game for the second time, and he was also named to the All-NBA First Team. Wemby won Defensive Player of the Year in 2026 as well.
