While several franchises have been linked to the Milwaukee Bucks superstar, the Miami Heat are increasingly being viewed as a serious contender if Antetokounmpo ever becomes available on the trade market.
The two-time MVP remains under contract with Milwaukee, but after a disappointing season for the Bucks, speculation about his future has only intensified. With the offseason approaching, league insiders continue to discuss potential landing spots for one of basketball's biggest stars.
Miami continues to gain momentum
During an appearance on ESPN's Get Up, NBA insider Brian Windhorst explained why Miami stands out among the teams that could pursue Antetokounmpo.
According to Windhorst, the Heat possess a combination of attractive trade assets and organizational appeal that could put them in a strong position if Milwaukee decides to consider offers.
"The team to watch here is Miami," he said. "Miami would say to what I just said, they go, 'well, we got Tyler Hero, who is a young player who's been an all-star. We got draft picks, including the 13th pick in this draft. We can give you a good, a pretty good lottery pick in this draft.' And Giannis, I think, wants to be in Miami. There's more checkmarks on Miami."
"Also, I'm not sure Boston's ready to trade Jaylen Brown. Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum have won a championship together. I thought that there was a decent chance we'd be in Boston right now for game three of these finals, and then Tatum got injured. I'm not sure Boston's ready to do that."
Windhorst's comments add another layer to the growing speculation surrounding Antetokounmpo and the Heat. Miami has long been viewed as one of the league's most attractive destinations for star players, thanks to its winning culture, market size, and ability to remain competitive year after year.
Several teams remain in the mix
The Heat are not the only team connected to Antetokounmpo. The Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Los Angeles Lakers have also been mentioned as possible destinations.
However, Miami's combination of young talent, draft capital, and roster flexibility could help separate it from many of the other teams reportedly interested in the Bucks star.
Antetokounmpo is scheduled to earn 58.5 million dollars next season and holds a player option worth 62.8 million dollars for the 2027-28 season. While he is not approaching free agency immediately, his contract situation gives him flexibility in the coming years.
Uncertainty surrounds Milwaukee
The Bucks entered the season with championship aspirations but struggled to meet expectations. Injuries, inconsistent performances, and roster concerns contributed to a frustrating campaign.
Milwaukee is now set to miss the postseason for the first time since 2016, a surprising development for a franchise that won the NBA championship in 2021 and spent years among the Eastern Conference elite.
As a result, questions continue to grow about the direction of the organization and whether major changes could be coming this summer.
For now, Antetokounmpo remains the face of the franchise. But if trade discussions ever become a reality, Miami appears to be one of the teams best positioned to make a serious move for the former NBA champion.
