Sources in France claim the Magpies have agreed a fee for the 20-year-old and that he is due to travel for a medical this week.
There are suggestions that could take place as early as Tuesday, but Newcastle are yet to comment on the ongoing speculation.
In addition to Jaouen, we take a look at the latest Newcastle United transfer rumours doing the rounds:
Newcastle United credited with Leonardo Trossard interest
Newcastle United have been credited with an interest in Arsenal winger Leonardo Trossard.
Eddie Howe’s side are in the market for a winger following the sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and according to Turkish outlet Sporx are monitoring Trossard’s situation at the Emirates.
Besiktas hold a long-term interest in the 31-year-old but are said to face competition from the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Juventus.
Trossard joined the Gunners from Brighton & Hove Albion for £27million in January 2023 but is facing an uncertain future as Mikel Arteta eyes a fresh face in the wide area.
Verdict: Extremely unlikely to happen.
Barcelona keeping tabs on Lewis Miley
Barcelona are said to be keeping close tabs on Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley.
Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness)claims Miley is among five players the Catalan giants have ‘gathered positive reports’ on. The others include Bayern Munich’s Lennart Karl, AZ Alkmaar’s Kees Smit, FC Porto’s Rodrigo Mora and Bayer Leverkusen’s Ibrahim Maza.
Barca have a direct line to Newcastle after signing Gordon for £69million last month, but securing a deal for Miley would be far more challenging. The 20-year-old recently penned a new six-year contract, keeping him at St James’ Park until 2032.
"He joined our Academy as a young boy with a dream and it is exciting for everybody to see the player he is becoming,” said sporting director Ross Wilson. “The most exciting aspect is that we believe the best is still to come."
Verdict: Newcastle see Miley as key part of the future. Other players will leave before a sale is even considered.
