Stacey King’s longtime announcing partner Neil Funk pays tribute after tragic passing

Everyone involved with the Chicago Bulls is mourning the unexpected passing of Stacey King on Sunday. The former player and beloved broadcaster was found dead in his Chicago home at the age of 59.

As of now, the cause of his death remains unknown as King will undergo a head autopsy. Meanwhile, friends and colleagues are sharing touching tributes to how King impacted their lives.

One of those came on Monday from former Bulls announcer Neil Funk, per 104.3 The Score. Funk spoke of how King was a people person with whom whoever he came into contact would be better off, and that there will never be another one like him.

“He just loved life,” Funk said. “It was amazing to me, we'd run into people on the street or in an arena and he made every one of those people feel like they were the only person in the building. “They're not going to make another Stacey King.”

Funk had been the Bulls' play-by-play announcer on the radio from 1991 to 2008. He called all six championships during the dynasty run, the first three of which King was a part of as a player (1991-1993).

In 2006, King became a Bulls broadcaster and forged a partnership and friendship with Funk. Two years later, they transitioned into television. In 2020, Funk retired after 29 years with the Bulls.

King would continue as an analyst for the Bulls, who were broadcast on The Chicago Sports Network. His catchphrases and fandom, mixed with commentary, endeared him to many fans.

King spent 20 years as a broadcaster.
