The future of Gabriel Martinelli is one of the most talked-about stories heading into the summer window. The Brazilian winger had a quiet season by his standards, and as the latest transfer news around Arsenal heats up, a move to Bayern Munich has moved from rumour to genuine conversation.
Gabriel Martinelli Has Been on Bayern’s Radar for a While
This isn’t exactly a new romance. As reported by TEAMtalk, Bayern made enquiries about the availability of Gabriel Martinelli, and the interest goes back further than this summer. Bild journalist Christian Falk confirmed that former Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel had placed the winger on his shortlist during his time in Munich and the club’s admiration never fully went away.
It’s easy to see why. The Gunners’ title-winning season showed what the team is capable of at its best, and a left winger with the pace and directness of Gabriel Martinelli fits the profile Bayern have chased for a couple of years now. He managed 11 goals and 7 assists across all competitions in 2024-25, as per Statmuse. Though this past season saw his numbers dip.
Gabriel Martinelli for Arsenal in 2025/26, as per FotMob:
Competitions Matches Starts Goals Assists
Premier League 30 11 1 4
FA Cup 4 4 4 1
EFL Cup 5 3 0 0
UCL 14 7 6 2
That dip in output is actually a big part of why his future feels uncertain right now. He hasn’t had the consistent run of games that would make it easy for the club to say, without doubt, he’s their man going forward.
The Brazilian Is Not a Priority for Bayern Right Now
Here’s where it gets interesting. As reported by TEAMtalk, Falk from Bild has been quite clear about Bayern’s current thinking. The Bavarian giants have shifted their approach after the failed move for Anthony Gordon. They now want to develop younger, lower-profile players rather than chase big-name signings.
Falk put it bluntly that Gabriel Martinelli “isn’t a player for the first XI” at Bayern, and everyone inside the club knows it wouldn’t be simple to get this deal done. That’s a significant statement. It doesn’t mean the interest is dead, but it does mean a concrete bid is unlikely unless something changes.
As reported by TEAMtalk, the price tag sits around €45m. For a player of his age and quality, that’s not unreasonable, but Bayern are not exactly rushing to meet it. PSG and Atletico Madrid are also in the picture, so it’s not as if the Gunners are short of options if they decide to sell.
What Does the Future Hold for Gabriel Martinelli?
As reported by TEAMtalk, former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit believes the club should move on from the Brazilian this summer. Petit argues that the north London side needs powerful, direct wingers with the ability to make a real difference, and right now, the squad doesn’t have enough of them.
That’s a fair point. The Gunners did win the Premier League this season, but the Champions League final defeat to PSG on penalties showed where the gaps still are up front. Gabriel Martinelli himself came off the bench in that final and didn’t have any significant impact. That’s hardly the image of an untouchable starter on a big football occasion.
As per Transfermarkt, his contract runs until 2027, so the club still holds the cards here. But if Bayern, PSG, or Atletico come with something close to the asking price, it’s hard to imagine the Gunners holding firm.
For the winger himself, a move to Munich makes sense only if he’s guaranteed a starting role. Based on what Falk says, that guarantee simply doesn’t exist right now. And that might be the biggest obstacle of all.
