“Whatever It Takes”: Miami Dolphins $64M Star Wants to Retire with Miami

Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler will have to adjust to a new 4-3 base defense scheme in Jeff Hafley’s first year as the head coach after primarily playing in a 3-4 scheme throughout his NFL career. Sieler is coming off a solid seventh season in Miami, recording 47 tackles, ten tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits, and 5.5 sacks in 17 starts. He also posted 32 pressures, 23 hurries, a 7.4% pass-rush win rate, 17 run stops, and a 5.9% stop rate.

Sieler enters the first year of his four-year, $64 million extension he signed last August. Since the Dolphins are in the middle of a rebuild and the star defensive tackle turns 31 in September, his days in Miami could be numbered, and he may be a trade candidate in the distant future.

During a press conference a week and a half ago, Zach Sieler was asked about his future, as reported by Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN NFL Nation. The star defensive tackle said he would like to spend the rest of his career in Miami and will do whatever it takes to make that happen. That suggests Sieler would be open to restructuring his contract or taking a pay cut in the future to persuade the front office to keep him.

He also said the team isn’t paying attention to outside expectations or Vegas odds/win totals:

Good to hear a player speak so directly about wanting to stay and build something in one place, and also keeping the focus firmly on what happens on the field rather than outside predictions. @Marcel_LJ
