Liverpool is one of England’s most iconic football clubs, competing in the Premier League and European competitions like the UEFA Champions League. Known for its attacking style, legendary players, and passionate fanbase, Liverpool has a rich history of domestic league… Read More about LIVERPOOL

Federico Chiesa has never truly nailed down a spot on Merseyside, and now the Italian winger is making his stance clear. Regular football is the priority, and he is prepared to move on if that is what it takes. This news makes a summer transfer away from Liverpool feel closer than ever.

Federico Chiesa and the game time problem at Anfield

As reported by CaughtOffside, Federico Chiesa told Gazzetta dello Sport that if he cannot find continuity in the Premier League, he will have no choice but to look elsewhere. It is honest and direct, and very much in keeping with the situation he finds himself in.

The numbers give that frustration real weight. As per Transfermarkt, across the 2025/26 football campaign, the Italian played just over 700 minutes in the league, barely the equivalent of eight full matches. There were a few encouraging moments, but no sustained run, no rhythm, and no real foothold.

Competitions Matches Starts Goals Assists

Premier League 26 1 2 1

FA Cup 3 2 0 0

EFL Cup 2 2 0 2

UCL 5 0 1 0

For a player of his profile, that is a genuinely difficult place to be. Federico Chiesa was also left out of the Champions League squad earlier in the season, a decision that set the tone for much of what followed. He responded positively at first, scoring and contributing in cup football but that spell of form never translated into a consistent starting role. The Italian has now gone two full seasons at Liverpool without truly establishing himself.

A new manager, but maybe not a new chapter

Andoni Iraola has taken charge of the Reds, and the squad transition raises obvious questions about who fits the new setup. Iraola is known for demanding high-intensity, pressing-based football, a system that requires players to be fully bought in from the start. Players who have not been central to the previous setup will need to prove themselves quickly.

Federico Chiesa told Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, that he plans to join the squad for their pre-season tour in the United States before sitting down with both the club and Iraola to discuss his future. That conversation will likely define everything.

Even so, it is hard to picture a straightforward route to regular starts under the new system. As reported by CaughtOffside, Liverpool is open to letting him leave for around €25 million, with Juventus and Napoli among the clubs mentioned. Both sides appear to be pointing in the same direction, with Liverpool willing to sell at the right price and the Italian keen to move on.

Federico Chiesa, Serie A and where next

Italy looks the most likely destination. In the Gazzetta interview, Federico Chiesa made clear that game time is the only thing that matters right now- not prestige, not profile, just minutes on the pitch. That kind of clarity from a player usually points to a move driven purely by football.

Multiple clubs in Serie A are tracking him. Como 1907, now managed by Cesc Fabregas and freshly into the Champions League for the first time in their history, have also emerged as a potential destination. It is an intriguing fit given the ambitious project taking shape there.

There is also an interesting side note from the same Gazzetta interview. The Italian praised his teammate Curtis Jones and suggested the midfielder could thrive in Serie A, specifically saying Inter Milan is right to consider him. It is a telling comment, one that hints at a broader mood at Anfield, where this summer looks set to bring two more significant departures.
