Ray Davis hints at leaving the Buffalo Bills for a new team

Ray Davis is clearly a talented football player.

With the Buffalo Bills, though, that even means he mostly gets to return kicks while star RB James Cook handles the work in the backfield.

And some new words from Davis suggest he's not all that happy with that. He could be looking for a route out of Buffalo sooner rather than later.

Davis spoke with features writer Ty Dunne for a new story, and in his comments, Davis alludes to a departure.

"All I want to do is just have a chance to compete and showcase my true ability," Davis said, "whether that's here or somewhere else in the near future."

That sure sounds like a guy ready for a new team.

And to be fair, Davis can't be blamed for that. It can be unfortunate timing for a gifted player to end up behind a star.

At the same time, the comments might be received poorly by some in the Buffalo fanbase. It's not a great look, even if it really is just Davis being honest.

"I'd be lying to you if I said I wasn't frustrated," Davis told Dunne. "My rookie year, I felt like I was really stepping into the light and really finding myself. And unfortunately Year 2, I was on the outskirts of the offense... I know I can compete, and I just want a chance to compete."

Buffalo certainly valued Davis' contributions in 2025 as a standout kick returner, even if that wasn't exactly the role he'd want.

It's unlikely that much will change in 2026, although maybe the Bills let Cook get a few more breathers and involve Davis a bit more in the offensive flow.

If not, though, Davis might soon start speaking even a bit more openly about the potential of him getting out of town and getting a bigger chance somewhere else.
