Dianna Russini unexpectedly turned into one of the biggest names in the NFL during the 2026 off-season. Her years-long affair with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was outed by countless pictures and videos. The former NFL insider was forced to “quit” her job at The Athletic and has since been MIA from the public eye.
Meanwhile Mike Vrabel has seemingly gone on with business as usual with the Patriots. However, the investigation into their relationship just got a massive update.
This is what we know.

Dianna Russini Investigation Update – Details Below
It has been over two months since The New York Times and The Athletic began investigating Dianna Russini’s conduct. Russini denied any improper conduct, but stated that she felt it was best to resign from The Athletic, a newspaper owned by The New York Times:
“I have come to this decision with deep sadness but with clarity about what is right for me, my family, and the work I have spent my career building.”
“I do not do so because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen to let it define me or my career.”
There has been an announcement by The New York Times and The Athletic that they are investigating Russini’s behavior and past reporting. Even though the investigation has been ongoing for two months, no public updates have been provided.
New York Times editors have reportedly “promised” an update – and perhaps a conclusion – will be forthcoming, according to Page Six:
“Some inside the New York Times building are beginning to wonder what’s taking so long with the Dianna Russini investigation, we’re told — but top editors have reiterated promises that it’s coming. Though they say a report is still ‘weeks’ away,” Page Six reported on Monday.
Steven Ginsberg, The Athletic’s top editor, said that an update is coming soon.
“It’s going to take a few more weeks,” he reportedly said, “There’s just a lot to go through, and we obviously want to take our time and be careful doing that. We will update everybody when we get to the end of that. We’ve also said that if we find anything that needs to be corrected, we will correct it along the way.”
The results of this investigation could be damaging to not only Russini, but also to Mike Vrabel. The Patriots have made it clear that they intend to proceed with Vrabel as their head coach despite the off-field distractions.
It will be interesting to see if this investigation changes that.
