Josh Sweat joins Jacoby Brissett at Cardinals’ minicamp after OTA holdout

OTAs were a bit dramatic for the Arizona Cardinals, as star edge rusher Josh Sweat and veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett held out during that time. However, with mandatory minicamp underway, it appears both players are back with the team.

Reports indicate that Sweat and Brissett arrived at the Cardinals' facilities for minicamp, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. It is not clear exactly how involved they will be during mandatory minicamp, but at the very least, they are with their teammates in Arizona.

“Cardinals veterans Jacoby Brissett and Josh Sweat, both of whom have not been present for voluntary OTAs, are in the house for mandatory minicamp.”

Rumors are that Sweat, who is 29 years old, is upset with the Cardinals. However, the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery. The rumors spread soon after the eight-year veteran was a no-show at OTAs, as speculation grew that Sweat had requested a trade. Arizona has stated this offseason that the front office does not plan to trade Josh Sweat after signing him to a four-year, $76.4 million contract last offseason.

Sweat finished his first season with the Cardinals, playing all 17 games. He finished the campaign with 30 combined tackles (20 solo), 12 sacks (career-high), four forced fumbles (career-high), and one fumble recovery (first ever in his career).

As for Jacoby Brissett, the 33-year-old quarterback held out of OTAs as he is seeking a new contract. He is entering the final year of his two-year, $12.5 million deal, and seemingly wants a better contract, as the 10-year veteran is projected to be the starting option under center for Arizona.

Brissett stepped in the 2025-26 campaign, playing 14 games (starting 12) after Kyler Murray sustained a concussion in the 22-21 Week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Jacoby Brissett had a career year with the Cardinals, throwing for 3,366 yards (career-best) and 23 touchdowns (career-best) while completing 64.9% of his pass attempts (career-best).
