Knicks superfan Ben Stiller ‘in denial’ over potential end of 53-year title drought after brutal ‘joke’ status

For longtime fans, it's hard to believe that the New York Knicks can win their first championship in 53 years, such as superfan Ben Stiller.

Stiller, who was seven years old the last time the Knicks won a chip, spoke to the New York Post about the team's turnaround. After years of disappointment, he accepted that the team was a “joke,” but now he's ready for them to win it all.

“My whole life I’ve lived with this idea that, ‘Oh, the Knicks aren’t going to make it, the Knicks have never been good, the Knicks have been a joke for a long time back in the day,’ ” Stiller said. “It almost became something you accept.”

With the team two wins away from a championship, Stiller called it “surreal.” He believes the Knicks winning a championship could be “unifying” for New York.

“It’s kind of surreal. I think it would be one of the biggest things to happen to the city in terms of unifying [us],” he claimed. “I think it’s stuff inside of people that they don’t even know is there, the feelings that are coming up where you’re used to just having to live with, ‘OK, this is what it is’ to the reality of we’re in the Finals and we’re two games up.”

Stiller will presumably be at Game 3 at Madison Square Garden. He traveled to San Antonio for the first two games of the series. He has been to most of the Knicks' postseason games this year. Stiller has been traveling and attending home games at the Garden. Suffice it to say, he is extremely excited that his team is on the brink of a title.

The Knicks currently hold a 2-0 lead after taking the first two of the series. They went into San Antonio and beat the Spurs in Games 1 and 2. Games 3 and 4 will be played at the Garden.
