The Philadelphia 76ers have some major questions to answer this offseason as they look to bounce back from their sweep against the New York Knicks in the playoffs. The 76ers recently hired Mike Gansey to be their new president of basketball operations, although Bob Myers is still calling the shots in Philadelphia.
Recently, Myers confirmed that the team wants to focus on adding both shooting and rebounding this offseason.
“Myers went on to mention that defensive rebounding, specifically, was an area of concern,” reported Austin Krell on Bluesky.
Some might interpret this to be a veiled shot at Joel Embiid, whose availability issues have given the 76ers a gaping hole on the interior at times over the last few years. Although Andre Drummond was a great rebounder for the 76ers in his own right, he still doesn't have the skillset of Embiid to allow him to stay on the floor for long stretches.

Overall, it's unclear what avenues the 76ers can explore this offseason to truly make a meaningful change heading into next year. Some have floated the idea of potentially trading Embiid, although his market would likely be quite limited at the current juncture due to the continued injury issues.
Meanwhile, the 76ers will bank on continued growth from All-Rookie first team member VJ Edgecombe nex year, who has formed a high-powered backcourt combination with Tyrese Maxey. Paul George also showed some signs of a career renaissance in the first round against the Boston Celtics in the playoffs, but tapered off dramatically in the series against New York.
Clearly, Myers and the rest of the front office have some big decisions ahead of them over the next couple of months.
