DiVincenzo's potential appearance in Game 3 of the NBA Finals links the Knicks' current success to the national championship high Villanova shared when they won the title in 2018. DiVincenzo was a standout on Villanova's championship squad alongside Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson, and Mikal Bridges. They managed to beat the Michigan Wolverines en route to a 79-62 victory that cemented their place in college basketball history. All four Nova Boys were then drafted into the NBA.
The former college teammates officially reunited as members of the New York Knicks in the 2023-2024 season. Donte DiVincenzo signed a four-year, $50 million deal with the Knicks in July 2023, and Mikal Bridges was acquired via trade by the Knicks from the Brooklyn Nets in July 2024. It appeared that the band was back together as they looked to compete for another championship, but DiVincenzo was a part of the pivotal trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks and sent him to the Timberwolves in October 2024.
Donte DiVincenzo's highly anticipated return to Madison Square Garden for the Knicks' championship run is serendipitous, and a great story should the New York Knicks win.
