DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The Davenport Community School District is honoring a [former Davenport Central High School graduate and football standout](https://www.kwqc.com/2026/02/24/davenport-canton-how-roger-craigs-experiences-quad-cities-led-him-greatness/) who eventually went on to play in the NFL, and won three Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers.
Monday night, at a school board meeting, the Davenport Community School District school board unanimously voted to approve renaming “Brady Street Stadium” to “[Roger Craig Stadium](https://www.kwqc.com/2026/05/22/davenport-schools-proposing-naming-brady-street-stadium-after-roger-craig/).”
Craig is a legendary figure both in the Davenport Schools and in the world of college and professional football, district leaders said. Craig attended the Davenport Schools during his academic career, eventually starring as a football player, wrestler, and track and field star at Central High School, leading his team to a state championship in 1976.
As a senior, Craig rushed for 1,565 yards and 27 touchdowns, including a 353 yard, four-touchdown effort in his final high school game, according to school board documents.
After high school, Craig played three full seasons at the University of Nebraska, finishing his career with 2,446 yards and 26 touchdowns, according to school board documents. Craig’s skills and work ethic at Nebraska led him to being drafted in the second round of the 1983 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
During his career with the 49ers, Craig become the first player to score three touchdowns in a Super Bowl, was the first player in NFL history to rush and receive at least 1,000 yards in a season, won three Super Bowls, and cemented himself as one of the most versatile players in the history of the NFL.
Upon retirement, Craig finished his career with 9,030 rushing yards, 5,517 receiving yards, and 82 touchdowns.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Craig would be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. His induction is set for Aug. 8.
