ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — On Monday, the Falcons made wide receiver Drake London’s four-year $141 million contract extension official. The huge deal shows that even with a new front-office regime, the Falcons know where the talent lies and are committed to keeping this strong offensive core intact.
London was entering the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, but new head coach Kevin Stefanski made it clear that London is exactly what the Falcons need.
“Drake represents everything that we believe in in terms of how you play this game, how you approach this game,” Kevin Stefanski said.
London did not practice Monday as he finished paperwork and physicals. His teammates were still happy to see the star receiver stick around for the foreseeable future.
“I was like you’re really rich, bro. You have so much money,” said Falcons running back Bijan Robinson. “But he’s so humble, he was like ‘Nah bro, I got to go out there and prove it.’ I was super happy for him.”
Robinson called London his best teammate. The All-Pro back is likely next to get extended, but he praised his receiver for all the things he does even when the ball doesn’t come his way.
“He’ll do whatever is asked of him and that’s why I think he deserves everything,” Robinson said.
“He’s a great piece for this offense and for this team. He brings everybody along with him. I’m just happy for Drake and hopefully we get to see more of that this fall,” said Matthew Bergeron, Falcons offensive lineman.
London will speak to the media on Tuesday. OTAs continue Tuesday and Thursday before mandatory minicamp June 16-18.
