National Media’s Latest Aaron Rodgers Discourse Reaches New Low

Aaron Rodgers has said that he is not just done with football after he calls it a career. He’s also finished with fishbowl life.

If he follows through on his vow to vanish, like at least one sock does every time I do laundry, talking points like one that aired Monday on Good Morning Football will be a reason why.

An almost four-minute segment showed footage from last Thursday after the Steelers traded red-zone drills for rollercoasters. It was centered on the burning question of whether Rodgers taking part in the team-bonding day at Pittsburgh’s Kennywood Park was a big deal.

For the record…Willie Colon: nah; Manti Te’o: heck yeah; Kyle Brandt: yes (and thank you for teeing up a clever quip I can make about Aaron Rodgers and rollercoasters).

Me: Seriously??

I get that June and most of July are the only times of the year when the NFL is quiet. Or at least not a Metallica concert in a broom closet.

I also understand that Good Morning Football is on the NFL Network. Analysts like Colon, a former Steeler and great dude, are limited in that they can’t talk about the Spurs needing Victor Wembanyama to not throw a pass off a teammate’s back with an NBA Finals game on the line.

But isn’t this reading into Rodgers getting ridiculous? At least go all the way if you are going to try to find a correlation between the four-time NFL MVP enjoying a day with his teammates and the Steelers’ prospects for 2026.

Did Rodgers indulge in Kennywood’s signature Potato Patch fries? If so, who sat at his table? Did they dip the loaded fries in ketchup? If they did not, did Rodgers call an audible, and was everyone on the same page? There was footage of Will Howard and Roman Wilson sitting together on a rollercoaster ride. Does that mean Wilson is still at least one zip code away from Rodgers’ circle of trust?

You see where I am going with this.

By all accounts, Rodgers was a great teammate and locker room fit with the Steelers last season. True, he strung them along this offseason – again — but he has largely been with the team when it has mattered. He took part in the Steelers’ first OTA practice the day he signed what will presumably be his last NFL contract.

He has since even made the sacrifice of going to Kennywood on Art Rooney II’s dime.

That is anything but a dig at Rodgers; rather, it’s a dig at how that inspired a discussion on whether it will help the Steelers play the Ravens in Baltimore six months from now.

Welcome to summer.
