The Giants held the first day of their mandatory minicamp on Monday. Weather was perfect in East Rutherford with temperatures in the mid-70s under bright, sunny skies.
* The first team session focused on third and medium down and distance, where Greg Newsome began the period with a forced incompletion. On the next play, Malachi Fields contorted his body to make a touchdown catch down the left sideline. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Odell Beckham Jr. both made reaching grabs during the period.
* The team worked on run-fits by running non-contact 9-on-7 drills.
* Paulson Adebo grabbed an interception on the first play of the second team period, recovering to get in front of a receiver in the middle of the field to grab a pass that floated in the air a little too long. Trace Ford had a pressure and would be sack in the period, while Brian Burns had a potential tackle for loss on a run play. On Ford's sack, the play continued and Korie Black picked off the pass on a crossing route.
* On the next play, DJ Reader got into the backfield for another likely sack, but the play continued and it gave Caleb Murphy the chance to make a jumping deflection on a pass down the sideline to a tight end.
* Jalin Hyatt had a couple of nice grabs in practice, one of which he adjusted to the ball in the air near the sideline to catch it over his shoulder. At the end of practice, he made a leaping catch over the middle for a big gain.
* One of Jaxson Dart's best throws of the day went to Calvin Austin III on a flag route towards the sideline that would have gone for 20+ yards. A handful of plays later, Jameis Winston connected with Beckham in the middle of the field. In the same period, Ben Barten and Bobby Jamison-Travis had back-to-back potential sacks, and Kayvon Thibodeaux had one of his own two plays later.
* Isaiah Hodgins made the catch of practice as he leaped high into the air on a jump ball and got his feet in down on the right sideline during plays from the high red zone.
* Dominic Zvada was perfect in practice. He connected on all eight of his field goal attempts, including one from 60 yards.
* In the next team period, Tyler Nubin got his hands on a pass over the middle on a crosser. Deonte Banks also knocked a pass away going over the middle. The offense answered on the next play when Winston hit Tyrone Tracy Jr. on a wheel route down the right sideline, which had a chance of getting into the end zone for a 65-yard score. Three plays later, Jaxson Dart hit Malachi Fields over the middle for a completion on a well thrown and accurate pass.
* In the next team period, Colton Hood played good coverage to force an incompletion on a deep pass. Bobby Jamison-Travis also had a batted pass during the period.
* The practice ended with three chances for the offense to score in two-minute situations, but the defense got the best of those matchups. Micah McFadden knocked away a short pass, and another likely completion late in practice was erased by a late knockaway. Zacch Pickens, Leki Fotu and Trace Ford all had batted passes near the line of scrimmage.
