Andoni Iraola will be tasked with getting more from the Liverpool players that he already has at his disposal next season, but there will need to be significant work undertaken in the transfer market too.
Liverpool is looking light in numbers with Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate having left as free agents. By the end of the window, it needs more players net, not fewer, meaning there will need to be plenty of activity.
Yan Diomande is one target, but the Reds will need to bring in at least a couple of forwards, in addition to better quality and depth elsewhere, which isn't going to come cheap. Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Anfield side today.
Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig)
In a bid to lower the price that RB Leipzig is demanding for Diomande, TeamTalk has suggested that Cody Gakpo could be offered to the Bundesliga side in part exchange.
Leipzig is in no rush to sell its star man, who is still only 19, and could demand as much as $150 million (£112 million) for Diomande. That, clearly, would be a huge amount to pay.
Gakpo didn't have the best season last year and has been linked with Tottenham and Aston Villa in the last couple of days. Losing another forward would mean needing to add more numbers in attack, though, with Liverpool already looking light.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
Harvey Elliott, who was wanted by Leipzig a year ago before he picked Aston Villa (a move, of course, that proved to be a mistake), seems a much more likely makeweight.
Even then, however, deals are very rarely structured as part-exchanges. In reality, they have to be separate for PSR purposes, with each asset having an individual valuation.
Liverpool.com says: Diomande looks to be the kind of player that would add a lot to the Reds' attack, in terms of pace, goals and creativity. Spending $150M on him, though, feels unlikely. It would be a big sum to gamble on a teenager.
Darwin Nunez (Al Hilal)
Yes, that one. Darwin Nunez left Liverpool a year ago, but he would be open to returning to the Reds, according to Mundo Deportivo.
His switch to Saudi Arabia hasn't worked out, and Nunez could now cut his stay in the Middle East short. His contract could be canceled with Al Hilal having dropped him from its roster earlier in the calendar year when it signed Karim Benzema.

Chelsea, Barcelona and Newcastle are all said to be keen, but Nunez is said to want to return to Liverpool. It is hard to imagine, though, that the Reds would have any interest in him. As many as eight clubs in Europe are said to be chasing him.
Liverpool.com says: While there is a need for the Reds to have enough cover at number nine in the absence of Hugo Ekitike, re-signing Nunez is not the answer.
Bringing in a versatile forward who can play wide and through the middle should be the aim, though exactly who that might be is yet to become clear.
