Mike Brown rips officiating, free-throw disparity in NBA Finals Game 3

Mike Brown isn't particularly happy about how the Spurs took 24 free-throw attempts during the second half of Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Knicks.

Mike Brown expressed his displeasure and openly criticized the way Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals was handled in favor of the San Antonio Spurs and against his New York Knicks team.

New York Knicks / Schedule

Addressing the media in the aftermath of their 115-111 loss on Monday night, the Knicks head coach questioned the officiating and the free-throw discrepancy between the two teams.

"First of all, I want to make sure I get something clear: Coach Mitch Johnson and the Spurs, they won the game tonight. They came and took the game. But I will say this, I never thought I'd be in the NBA Finals and see a team get 24 free throw attempts in the second half to another team's eight," Brown told reporters. "And I don't think I complain much about officials or the fairness when it comes to the free throw attempts.

"San Antonio is a great team. They're a great team, okay? It's gonna lower our odds big time, big time, if we play Game 4, and in the second half, they get 24 free throw attempts to our eight. And maybe we were fouling, maybe we were fouling, but they fouled too."

Spurs tally staggering free-throw numbers in Game 3 win vs Knicks

The Spurs and the Knicks battled it out in Game 3, but the former appeared to have won the officiating battle down the stretch to win the critical match.

While the free-throw totals are not that far apart for the entire game, with the Knicks going 18-of-22 and the Spurs netting 25-of-32, the second-half difference between both teams is simply glaring.

San Antonio took 24 attempts in the entire second half alone, significantly higher compared to New York's eight.
