Chelsea need to make significant changes this summer as they look to put a disappointing Premier League campaign behind them and get off to a strong start under Xabi Alonso.
The Blues are likely to get behind the Spaniard in the transfer market, with the squad clearly in need of upgrades, and with that in mind, we have put together a possible XI for the new season based on recent rumours.
GK - Mike Maignan
Chelsea know they need a new goalkeeper to upgrade on Robert Sanchez, and the obvious option is AC Milan's Maignan, who was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge last summer. There have been big changes at Milan, and a move this summer certainly isn't out of the question.
LB - Nathaniel Brown
Marc Cucurella has been heavily linked with a return to Barcelona, and if he does move, Eintracht Frankfurt's Nathaniel Brown could be of interest to Chelsea, according to reports. The Germany international is quickly becoming one of the world's most valuable at his position.
CB - Levi Colwill
Chelsea are unlikely to change too much in the way of starting centre-backs even if they do sign another this summer. Colwill will likely start now that he is fit.
CB - Trevoh Chalobah
Chalobah is also likely to start unless Chelsea go out and spend £50million plus on a centre-back, which doesn't seem overly likely.
RB - Reece James
James is still going to be the preferred option at right-back if he can stay fit. Malo Gusto is also an option, and it's unlikely the position will be added to this summer.
CDM - Adam Wharton
With Enzo Fernandez having been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton has been linked with Chelsea. The England international is one of the league's best out-and-out defensive midfielders, and he is someone Chelsea will likely consider if Fernandez does leave.
CDM - Moises Caicedo
Caicedo will remain one of the first names on the teamsheet next season.
CAM - Joao Pedro
While Pedro has been excellent for Chelsea, the Blues need to find a new starting striker to add more balance to this team, and if they do, Joao Pedro could be shifted to the attacking midfield role.
RW - Pedro Neto
Neto is another of the first names on the teamsheets, given he is clearly the club's most dangerous winger. Estevao Willian will surely be plenty involved, though.
LW - Cole Palmer
Palmer is another who is likely to keep his place, but he is going to have to rediscover his best form after a disappointing campaign. A start on the wing may be more likely if a new starting striker is found. Chelsea could do with adding a new left winger.
CF - Dusan Vlahovic
A number of strikers have been linked with Chelsea, but among the most practical is free agent Vlahovic, who leaves Juventus this summer. The Blues need a striker who is able to hold the ball up, and Vlahovic is that man. He is not a goalscorer as such, but the Serbian is very capable of scoring goals, and he is a good fir for Alonso's system.
