OG Anunoby admits Knicks’ ‘mental mishaps’ in Game 3 loss to Spurs

It was good while it lasted. The New York Knicks saw their 13-game winning streak get snapped by the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday.

The Spurs entered Madison Square Garden in desperation mode after dropping the first two games at Frost Bank Center. They did enough in crunch time to fend off the Knicks and escape with a nail-biting win, 115-111. San Antonio cut New York's lead in the series, 2-1.

The impressive efforts of Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby were not enough to carry the Knicks. Brunson had 32 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Anunoby added 28 points and five rebounds.

In the postgame conference, Anunoby acknowledged that they shot themselves in the foot.

“We weren't as connected as we normally are. We had some mental mishaps and allowed some easy buckets. Also, our transition defense was not really what we wanted it to be,” said the do-it-all forward in the video posted by SNY.

San Antonio shot 46% from the field, just a shade higher than New York. Both teams shot 35% from three-point distance.

The Knicks gave up 21 points on 13 turnovers, as the Spurs employed pressure defense in the backcourt.

New York stayed afloat in the closing minutes, with Brunson and Anunoby hitting back-to-back three-pointers. San Antonio, however, remained composed, with Stephon Castle draining the game-sealing free throws.

The Knicks suffered their first loss in 46 days. Their 13-game winning streak was the second-longest in postseason history, trailing only the Golden State Warriors' 15-game winning streak in 2017.
