Arsenal eyeing 'incredible' £43m Bundesliga star who's set to star at the World Cup - report

Arsenal are eyeing up a move to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Ibrahim Maza this summer, according to reports.

The Gunners enjoyed a stunning campaign as they lifted the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years, while also reaching the Carabao Cup and Champions League finals, but Mikel Arteta is now keen to add more options to the squad to be able to add to his trophy tally.

Midfield is expected to be one area that can be strengthened in the upcoming window, and the club have now turned their attention towards a top talent who is set to shine at the World Cup.

Maza, who has been described as 'incredible' by former Leverkusen boss Kasper Hjulmand, enjoyed a fantastic campaign in the Bundesliga this season, registering five goals and six assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.

The Algeria international has been selected as part of their 26-man squad for this summer's World Cup, and is now set to be watched by a number of top clubs during the tournament ahead of a potential transfer, including Arsenal.

Maza's excellent combative attributes, mixed with his energy, high potential, and technical quality have attracted the interest of a number of clubs, and Leverkusen have put a €50m (£43m) asking price on his head in order to try and put some clubs off.

But Arsenal are expected to make some sales this summer to generate funds, while the likes of Christian Norgaard could also be moved on, and that opens up a spot in the midfield for a top young talent to come in.

Myles Lewis-Skelly's integration into the side as a midfielder during the run-in has made it less of a priority during the upcoming window, however, Maza's talent means he is someone they are very keen on taking a closer look at during the tournament.

Maza Would Be One for Present and Future

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta looks on ahead of Champions League final vs Paris St Germain

Arsenal's squad is a terrific blend of quality, experience, and hungry young players who are ready to make an impact.

The likes of Max Dowman, Lewis-Skelly, and Ethan Nwaneri have all shown that they have the quality to step up when necessary, but in a more defensive role cover for Declan Rice is likely to be needed, considering he is going to the World Cup after a very long season.

Maza would offer that in the immediate short-term, while also having the potential to become a long-term replacement in the position too. It would be a top signing for the future, but one that also improves the squad for right now as they look to turn their recent success into a dynasty.
