Manchester City hope to finalise signing in ‘coming days’ – Negotiations progress well

Manchester City have made concrete advances in their ongoing pursuit of ES Troyes AC’s Mathys Detourbet.

Last December, Sport Witness covered claims from France of the 19-year-old visiting the Premier League side’s facilities.

Two months ago, there were claims indicating that Manchester City have a deal in place to sign the winger. However, claims from France denied this but insisted the Citizens are keen.

On May 16th, we relayed news of the progress made by the English club to secure his services.

The City Football Group own both Manchester City and the French club, who have secured promotion to Ligue 1.

Manchester City have clear plan

Mathys Detourbet has played a part in ES Troyes AC’s promotion, scoring five goals and contributing seven assists from 38 matches.

He has attracted attention from several clubs, keen to welcome him. That’s according to Foot Mercato, who state Manchester City are leading the race.

The Premier League side’s negotiations are progressing well, and all parties involved hope to ‘finalise everything in the coming days’. The CFG connection has seen the Etihad club make advances.

A few details are still pending to reach the full agreement. There’s no mention of these details but there seems to be optimism of the transfer going through.

The France U20 international will sign a five-year contract with Manchester City but won’t be at the Etihad next season.

Instead, the English club will send him on a season-long loan to AS Monaco, with an option for another year. This is part of the Citizens’ long-term plan for the attacker.

Loan move beneficial for all parties

Mathys Detourbet hasn’t played at the highest level yet and wouldn’t get regular football at Manchester City.

AS Monaco will get a new signing without a significant investment and a loan move would see the Frenchman enjoy more game time.

This is needed for his development, which in return could help the English club in the long run.

Foot Mercato make no mention of the transfer fee. Transfermarkt value the attacker, who has a contract until 2028, at €15m.
