Darwin Nunez's Transfer Stance Revealed As Newcastle United Join Chelsea And Barcelona In Pursuing Ex-Liverpool Star

Newcastle United have considered bringing Darwin Nunez back to England, according to reports in Spain.

The Uruguayan international was sold by Liverpool to Al-Hilal for €53m (plus add-ons) last summer, but he was not registered to play in the Saudi Pro League in the second half of last season. The arrival of Karim Benzema at the start of the year means he is no longer deemed a key player.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Al-Hilal may, therefore, let him go for a reasonable price, and he has been deemed a “low-cost” option for several clubs, including Barcelona, Chelsea, and the Magpies.

Nunez is, though, keen on exploring another option. It is believed that he would prefer a return to Liverpool less than 12 months after his departure.

Could he be persuaded to join Newcastle?

Nunez is the type of striker who would thrive under manager Eddie Howe. He is very physical, hard-working, and likes to make runs in behind. He is very different to Nick Woltemade.

For that reason, you can understand why sporting director Ross Wilson would have considered him, especially if he is available on the cheap.

There may be a chance of snapping up still, as Liverpool are not thought to be looking for a no.9, with their priority being finding a replacement for Mo Salah. Their main target is said to be RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.

Another player is close to securing a move to St James’ Park

It appears as if Stade de Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen will be the Magpies’ first signing of the summer transfer window. A £24.6m fee has reportedly been agreed for the 20-year-old.

Jaouen may not necessarily join as the club’s de facto number one, but he will provide competition for Nick Pope or for whoever comes in to replace him.
