Victor Wembanyama now has the most blocks ever recorded by a player in their first career postseason run.
San Antonio Spurs young superstar Victor Wembanyama has turned his first NBA playoff run into a historic one.
In his postseason debut, Wembanyama has not only helped lead the Spurs to the NBA Finals while eliminating the defending champions along the way, but has also continued to rewrite the record books.
His latest milestone came in Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks.
With three blocks in San Antonio's crucial 115-111 win in Game 3, Wembanyama became the player with the most blocks ever recorded in a first postseason run.
The French superstar surpassed legendary center Dikembe Mutombo and also became the first player in NBA history to record 70 blocks in his first playoff campaign, via Statmuse.
Spurs respond after difficult start to Finals
After dropping the first two games of the series at home in San Antonio, the Spurs answered with a much-needed road win at Madison Square Garden.
The victory cut New York's NBA Finals lead to 2-1 and gave San Antonio new life in the championship series.
Wembanyama was at the center of that response. After his costly late turnover played a major role in San Antonio's Game 2 loss, he bounced back with a dominant all-around performance in Game 3.
Wembanyama finished the game with 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting, while also adding eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals in 39 minutes.
His performance helped the Spurs silence the New York crowd and keep the series alive ahead of Game 4 at Madison Square Garden.
Game 4 will also take place at MSG on Wednesday night, giving the Spurs another chance to even the series before it shifts back to San Antonio for Game 5.
For Wembanyama, the challenge will be to build on his Game 3 response while dealing with another hostile New York crowd.
