Jordan Henderson is set to make England history in this summer's World Cup finals.
The Brentford midfielder’s selection has provoked a lot of debate since the former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain head coach announced his squad for the tournament in North America last month. However, Henderson remains a valued and trusted presence within the Three Lions ranks and is believed to have the respect of his team-mates within the squad. Since then, Henderson has featured at six major tournaments and that ranks him alongside Sol Campbell and Wayne Rooney at the top of a list of the players that have represented England in the most major tournaments. However, the former Black Cats star will move out on his own with a seventh appearance after he was named as part of Tuchel’s squad for this summer’s World Cup finals - and he described his selection as ‘an honour’.
Speaking earlier this month, the former Black Cats midfielder said: "I think everybody knows what England means to me, with my whole career representing my country. So I’m very honoured, very lucky to have this opportunity. But for me, it’s the same as always, to be the best version of myself, to be ready to help the team on and off the pitch and give absolutely everything to help this team be successful.
"The last few years has been a bit of a roller coaster, to say the least, but I’ve worked very hard to be in this position and made a lot of sacrifices, and I’m just very grateful and honoured to be here. It’s about giving absolutely everything to make the nation back home very proud of us and to do that, we need to just be ourselves."
