Manchester United are looking to make waves in the summer transfer window. With Michael Carrick installed as their permanent head coach, his work can begin – and they’ve indentified a Chelsea superstar as one of their primary targets.
Marc Cucurella seems to be unsettled at Stamford Bridge as things stand, having courted the idea of a move away from the club. Could Old Trafford be the Spanish international’s next destination?
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, United have an interest in the player and could look to bring him on board in the coming months. However, they are far from alone – local rivals Manchester City are also thought to be keen on a move for Cucurella.
Additionally, teams such as Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been linked. As such, competition to land Cucurella’s signature is expected to be particularly fierce.
Cucurella is under contract with Chelsea until 2029. Due to this, the Blues are under no pressure to sell him as of yet, but could be forced to do so if he expresses a further desire to depart the club.

Upon his arrival at Chelsea from Brighton in 2022, Cucurella initially struggled, looking to be out of his depth at Stamford Bridge. Since then, however, the Spanish international has developed into one of the best left-backs in the world.
The 2025/26 season was far from his best, but he still managed to be one of Chelsea’s most consistent players throughout a tumultuous campaign for the Blues.
A high-energy defender with excellent technical ability and a penchant for bending the rules, Cucurella is a nightmare to play against for any winger. At just 5ft 7, he is relatively diminutive, but he knows how to use his limited size to the best of his ability. It also gives him quite a low centre of gravity, making him difficult to knock off the ball.
Who would benefit the most from Marc Cucurella’s arrival?
If United seriously a pursue a move for Cucurella, he would be a fantastic addition to their squad. Currently, the Red Devils lack a top-quality left-back on their books.
Luke Shaw is the best they have, but he is reaching the end of his career and has often found himself playing as a centre-back as of late. Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia is expected to leave the club and Patrick Dorgu has been converted into a winger.
Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot can both play there, but it isn’t their natural role – they are both right-backs. As such, bringing Cucurella to United would be a fantastic way to address a major issue within their playing staff.
Manchester City, meanwhile, would have less of a role for him to play as things stand. Nico O’Reilly is the best left-back in the Premier League at the moment – as good as Cucurella is, he would not usurp the England international if he was brought to the Etihad Stadium in the summer.
