Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a contract offer for Liverpool target Nico Schlotterbeck.
DaveOCKOP.com reported in May that the Reds could make a move for the German international with Ibrahima Konate likewise going to Real Madrid.
Talks with his camp had taken place and the feedback from those conversations was encouraging.
His entourage even made a visit to the AXA Training Centre during the season just gone.
Although the Germany international appeared frustrated with Borussia Dortmund’s direction in 2025/26, he ultimately penned a new deal in April, committing his future to the club until 2031.
But that new contract is rumoured to have a release clause, and Real Madrid are looking to captilise on that according to local reports.
Sport BILD in Germany has now reported:
“Schlotterbeck has an exit clause with a special World Cup regulation. Under certain conditions, it allows him to move this summer. The fixed transfer fee is expected to be between 50 and 60 million euros.”
“Real Madrid is one of the clubs that has direct access to the BVB star. The Whites are therefore planning to make Schlotterbeck an offer in the near future.”
They add that Schlotterbeck wants to join Real Madrid: “In his inner circle, Schlotterbeck is said to have emphasized several times how much Real Madrid appeals to him.”
The drawn‑out nature of his contract talks with Borussia Dortmund strongly hints that the release clause was the major sticking point, amid plenty of speculation he might walk away without signing.
In the end, though, the 26‑year‑old did commit – and he now heads into the summer as part of Germany’s World Cup squad, meaning any concrete decision over his future is unlikely before the tournament ends.
He comes into it on the back of an impressive season for Borussia Dortmund, registering five goals and two assists from defence across 37 appearances in all competitions.
