Hertha Berlin wonderkid Kennet Eichhorn has reportedly turned the chance to join Liverpool this summer according to Sky Germany.

Ever since Eichhorn broke into Hertha Berlin’s first team at just 16, quickly becoming a regular in the 2. Bundesliga and the youngest player in the league’s history, Europe’s elite have been circling.

Reports that emerged that Liverpool were very keen on the midfielder, with a release clause valued at between €10-12m.

But now Florian Plettenberg has reported that the 16-year-old wants to instead remain in his native Germany.

The Sky journalist adds that the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig will now battle it out for his signature:

“Rejection in the last hours: Despite Liverpool’s intensive efforts, Hertha BSC gem Kennet Eichhorn will not join the Reds. Eichhorn wants to stay in Germany. Leverkusen are pushing hard for a permanent deal as revealed last night. Leipzig remain hopeful.”

“The 16 y/o has decided against a move to England, even though Liverpool’s offer was the most attractive at first glance – both financially and in terms of the club’s stature. The offer from Liverpool was higher than those of all German clubs competing for Eichhorn.”

While Liverpool’s pull is undeniable, German clubs able to offer him the chance to stay in his home country. He can continue playing regular first‑team football while avoiding the complications of a move to the Premier League before he turns 18.

It was also suggested that Liverpool could look to loan him out to circumvent these rules, but that didn’t seem to appeal to Eichhorn.
