The Knicks and the Spurs duked it out in game three last night, and it was all happening. Zohran Mamdani was perched in the nosebleeds. Donald Trump was being relentlessly booed (and perhaps napping?). And Timothée Chalamet was descending further into Knicks wardrobe mania.
Which isn’t surprising, if you keep up with him. If there’s one thing Chalamet knows how to do, it’s commit – to a role, to a bit, to a colour. Last year it was Marty Supreme orange. Now, it’s the specific, eye-watering shade of Knicks orange.
For game three, Chalamet was in custom Chrome Hearts, which follows his evolution nicely. Chalamet is a student of New York’s streetwear scene. This is a dude whose dedication to Timbs is unmatched (last night, they were customised with orange and blue crosses – obviously). Paired with the leather tracksuit and sunnies, Chalamet stands on the shoulders of the rappers and street style legends that were styling out the combo when Timmy was but a twinkle in his parents’ eyes. As the NBA finals continue (Spurs took out game three, so the Knicks In Four dream is, sadly, dead), he moves closer and closer to his final New Yorker form.

Chrome Hearts has played a pretty big hand in said evolution. The leather looks he and partner Kylie Jenner wore to the Marty Supreme premiere? Chrome Hearts. The neon green shirt and black leather suit seen on the SAG Awards red carpet? Also Chrome Hearts. But we’d argue this is the coldest Chalamet x Chrome collab yet. A slightly baggy tracksuit with white piping and double Chrome crosses on the chest, it’s a style that could fit courtside or in the club (which is maybe where he ended up, post-loss).
Chrome Hearts is the LA brand that’s near impossible for normies to cop. Beloved by Billie Eilish, Travis Scott and Jay Z, most regular buyers will have to fork out a small fortune to bag a grail piece on the resale market. But Timmy kinda has them on speed dial. Custom Chrome looks have become a staple in his wardrobe over the past year. His hook up is so solid that Chrome’s design team don’t even seem to mind switching up its signature goth colour palette when Chalamet calls. Must be nice.
But last night’s Marty Supreme – sorry, Knicks – orange reup was more than standard flex. Up until now, Chalamet’s team had won 13 games in a row. Knicks fans were hyped. Mamdani had repealed kids’ bedtimes so they could stay up to watch the game. Timmy had no choice but to pull out all the stops. Alas, the Knicks ended up losing by four points. A little misery for the faithful, but at least one more courtside fit from the Prince of New York. Swings and roundabouts.
